Dancer is a quarter horse gelding, 25, but still full of energy. Given a wide flat road, he loves to run (he used to do the quarter mile). He gets excited on trail rides, and so this often involves more focus or speed than is good for a beginner, but it can be fun for someone a little more experienced. In the ring, he is quite calm and obliging; he is attentive and responsive to commands. He likes learning to do new and interesting things. He can be ridden English or Western. Weird habits of note: he will try to herd dogs, cats, and other horses if they are too close and not doing what he thinks they ought to be; he likes to clear his throat when he starts to trot; and he will nicker very sweetly for anyone with treats

Dreamer is quite literally a dreamer. In his ideal world he'd never be caught in the pasture or ridden. Doesn't spook at anything on the road but thinks every tree and bush are out to get him. He's a royal pain sometimes but you've gotta love this big goofy guy. He's Victoria's big beautiful spastic mutt.

Though most of his riding and training was originally done in the arena, we found that Fire really shines out on trail.  He truly has the best qualities of both QH and Arabian – the strength and dependability of a QH along with the endurance and curiosity of an Arabian.  It’s easy to form an instant bond with this guy: he has a heart of gold, he will do absolutely anything to please you, and he’s got just the right mix of gelding goofiness to always keep you laughing.  Despite every effort to keep his winter blanket from looking like a holey rag, he insists on spending his day wrestling with Kasper out in the paddock.

Little Joe is a magnificent man with smooth gaits and flawless riding manners. Used previously as a polo referee horse and an equitation team jumper near Manhattan, Little Joe is now living the country life out here on trails with us. While he is an independent and unflappable trail horse with little drama under saddle, Little Joe is picky about how he is tacked up and dealt with on the ground.

Misty Belle a completely broke mare with a personality all her own. She came to Sylvia a under weight, with little muscle tone and out of shape, since she had not been ridden since she was first trained. After the special menu, planned by Erika at Painted Bar Stables, along with conditioning by Amber and trail riding by Sylvia, she has grown into a beautiful, responsive pony. She needs nothing more than a bitless hackamore to guide her through the trails. She's a very smooth ride as she is part Paso Fino. The only horse at Painted Bar Stables that talks to the stable hands that feed her in the morning. She's a little tease though, so we have to be careful to keep her away from the boys as we don't want any little Misty Belles. She is used for lessons for children and can be ridden by small adults under 150lbs.

Piper was a very lucky girl when she was rescued from a kill pen in 2011 by Lyn Gerry. Lyn and Piper accompanied Melissa on her very first trail ride that spring. A few months later, Melissa and Piper officially met--and it was love. Melissa adores Piper's antsy willingness to please, her speed and smooth gaits, and her bravery out alone on the trail. And Piper needed her very own person to really come into her own. Melissa looks forward to many years of trail adventures with Piper and their faithful black-and-white canine sidekick, Jane.

Princess was trained as a western pleasure horse and is one of the sweetest horses at Painted Bar Stables. Sometimes we realize that she is trained too well for her own good when riders realize how much she can do, except probably move quickly. Her trot can match the pace of other horses' walk and she can easily canter behind a horse trotting. Her extremely smooth gaits makes her a wonderful horse for riders just beginning to learn how to canter, especially the children she works wonderfully with. She loves to be pampered by Bryce and Terry, and in many cases truly acts like the princess she thinks she is.

Nash is trainer Allie Taisey's little shadow who comes along for some trail rides. Listen for the tinkling of his little bell; it's not hard for us or the horses to find him on the farm. He lives for PBS trail rides...and eating manure. Your guess about what breed he is, is as good as ours. Clues: he doesn't herd, his brothers are brown and grey (not black and white), and he LOVES the snow. Nash came up from TN through the foster system. Although he was found in a ditch as a puppy, his 2 year life has been great ever since!

Reba is very responsive with great ground manners. No cribbing, No vices. She is a very smooth ride and has been ridden with a hackamore and did great. She is a one-owner type horse. She appreciates her owner and prefers not to be on the trail ride circuit with different riders all the time. She's very special and forms strong bonds with only a few lucky people. Reba is one very smart cookie and wants to aim to please. Charlene is so honored to have her as her very own and is looking forward to building trust with one another and forming a bond with her so that they can be best friends for life.
