Come and enjoy the beauty of the Finger Lakes, the rolling hills of the Finger Lake National State Forest, and the majesty of the ability to enjoy it by horseback. Located in Schulyer County, N.Y., we are short drive from Ithaca and directly on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Our proximity to Watkins Glen puts us in the midst of cascading waterfalls, breathless lake views and rolling glacier carved hills.
We at the Painted Bar Stable are proud of our local area and the accessibility that it presents to horses of all shapes and riders of all kinds. By focusing on trail riding and equine pleasure, we work to share our love of horses, particularly APHA Paints, and the grandeur of our home.
Established as the Painted Bar Stables in 2003, the stables changed ownership in early 2008. The new owner, Erika Eckstrom, has since brought new life to the stable, revitalizing the farm and doing needed renovations in order to make it into the local equine landmark that it was in the 1960s and 1970s. The resulting community that has grown in the barn is an intimate mix, bringing young and old together to enjoy and learn from one another.
Operating predominantly as a pleasure riding and breeding facility, the Painted Bar Stables lives up to its name by producing the highest quality APHA painted and colored horses. Standing at stud is Sierras All The Gold, a 2002 Perlino homozygous creme tobiano stallion that is guaranteed to produce creme dilute offspring: buckskin, palomino, perlino and cremello. Painted Bar Stables is also home to the offspring of Pepsi Poco and other champion APHA and AQHA offspring.
Painted Bar Stable also provides refuge for a number of rescue horses. Erika has long been dedicated to offering home to horses who have been injured on the track or neglected by their owners and has been working to rehabilitate these horses into a better future.

Stable Hand
Jake is one of the newsest members to the PBS Crew. He is just learning about horses and riding. He really enjoys working with all the wonderful people at the Stable. He watched his first horse show at Wat-Ont on July 17 and he is now super excited to attend the next one. His favorite horses are Dozer and Tally.

Stable Hand
Tia is one of the youngest member to the bunch. At 11 is just now starting western riding on Candy and Maxie. She volunteers at the stable as much as possible, two or three times a week. While she currently doesn't have much experience with horses, there's always a start to everything! My favorite horse is Beauregard, and she is hoping to work up to riding him and eventually lease him (if she can get her mother's permission!). When she gets better at riding she is hoping to try jumping, but for recreation. As she says, "I don't like shows, so I don't attend to be in any, but I like watching." |
