About Us...
We're a close knit family here at Painted Bar Stables and each of our horses represents a very special addition to the bunch. Here's an introduction to some of our friends.

Bachelor Foolish Blonde
"Dutchess"
APHA Solid Paint Palomino Mare
1999, 15.3hh

If you want a steady horse, this is your girl. She doesn't take any funny business and doesn't give any back. She just loves going on long trail rides and you'll notice that before each trail ride she get's a bit antsy - she's just ready to go! And once she gets underway she settles down into pace and can go all day.

Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside
"Beau" or "BoBo"
Quarter Horse-cross Red Roan Gelding
2001, 16.1hh

We call him a "point and shoot horse." Wherever you point him he goes, just watch where you point him. We've actually by accident pointed him at trees and uprooted them before. Because he's a big boy usually our larger riders use him for trail rides, but don't let his size decieve you. Some of our 8-10 year old riders take lessons on this handsome guy.

Double My Scotch
"Scotch"
APHA Paint Red Dun Tobiano Mare
April 14 2004, 14.1hh

Scotch is a bubbly little squirt. She's adorable and sweet with a mind of her own and enough personality to fill the whole barn. Calm and unwavering, Scotch isn't scared of anything. She loves working with children and adults equally and never fails to surprise us.

Scotch is due to give birth to a Palomino Tobiano Overo foal in June 2010 by JKGS Awesome Desmond.

Elmer Fudd
"Elmo"
Appaloossa Red Roan Gelding
1998, 15.3hh

Nothing phases Elmo. We often joke that as long as you let Elmo be your friend, he'd do anything you ask. He's full of heart and is a consistent personality in our barn. He prefers trail rides to working in the arena, but you'd be surprised at what he can do when it comes to the show ring.

Elmo came to use very underweight and with terrible hoof issues and laminits. While he has gained a bit of weight, he is carbohydrate intollerant so it has been a slow process. His feet are now better but he still does long trail rides with his special "sneakers"on just in case.

JKGS Awesome Desmond
"Kasper"
APHA Paint Cremello Overo Gelding
2007, 15.2hh

Kasper may just never grow up. He is our funky little dude, with an in-your-face lovability that's hard to avoid. All he wants to do is play and have fun with his friends, both horse and human.

Kasper is learning how to ride and he's proving to be an easy train. He truly wants to be one of our riding horses and immitates his buddies all the time.

Kasper is offered for sale for $3,500. Please click here to see our Horses for Sale

Maximum Review
"Maxie"
APHA Paint Sorrel Tobiano Overo Mare
March 1 1998, 15.3hh

Maxie is one of our most valuable players, here at the barn. A flashy looking girl, she is a great lesson and trail horse for beginners. She especially good with women and children. Maxie also knows how to jump and is one of our favorite barrel racers!

Maxie is due to give birth to a Palomino Tobiano Overo foal in June 2010 by JKGS Awesome Desmond..

"Mack"
Tennessee Walker Blue Roan Sabino Gelding

Moonlight Scandal
"Moon"
APHA Solid Paint Cremello Filly
June 26 2010

A well bred pretty little cremello baby out of one of my favorite Western mares. She is going to be a tall and leggy youngster with classy looks and her flashy color will turn heads.

She is offered for sale for $1,500. She cannot be weaned until late fall, but she can be purchased prior to weaning with free board until she is weaned.

Double Awesome Pixie Dust
"Pixie"

Born on May 29, 2010 to our mare Scotch, Pixie is one of the newest members for our family.

She is already sold to Katie Steigerwalt.

Pepsi Poco LeoDandy
"Pepsi"
APHA Paint Black Tobiano Mare
September 1 1998, 14.3hh

Little Pepsi Co. used to be a pro-mama because of her great Pepsi Poco bloodlines but now is Erika's go-to-girl. She's very sweet and even tempered but has absolutely no sense of humor. Not really a fan of hanging out with the herd, Pepsi likes to do it her way.

Unfortunately Pepsi picked up a little buck in her step when she was pregnant with Mister, but she's getting much better and will soon return to the trail string.

Sierras All The Gold
"Sierra"
APHA Paint Perlino Tobiano Stallion
2002, 15.2hh

Perhaps better known as "Brad Pitt" around the barn, Sierra is our #1 stallion, and he's quite a stud. A beautiful man with a peaceful temperment and calm demeanor, Sierra is a fast learner and a hard worker. He seems to pass his great personality onto his offspring, not to mention his light color!

Prior to being owned by Erika, Sierra cleanly broke his navicular bone in his front hoof. While it will never heal enough for him to run barrels or jump, he's getting better every day and has been lameness free since November 2009. He is truly happy to return to work again and who knows, maybe someday this fearless stallion will again ride the trails of Burdett.

Sierra Mist PocoTwist
"Mister"
APHA Paint Palomino Tobiano Gelding
June 15, 2009, Still growing... should reach 15.1hh

Mister Man is the little man on campus. But don't let his youth and little size fool you, even big Beauregard follows him around like a little puppy. He's a really easy guy to work with. Just like his momma, nothing seems to phase him and just like his daddy he is a gentile and kind soul. We think he's going to be one flashy children's show horse when he gets big.

Mister is currently being offered for sale for $2,500. With his great bloodlines and special flashy coloration he's sure to turn heads in both an English or Western show ring.

Skip Me Awesome Cupid
"Cupid"
APHA Paint Palomino Tobiano Overo Colt
June 6 2010

Cupid was born at 7:00am on June 6. He is now a handsome and strapping baby boy. Cupid is ALL legs. He's speedy, fast, and very very alert.

He is a palomino tobiano overo. This means that he is both a dilute and carries both types of pinto colorations. He looks like a palomino carbon copy of mom! We named him Cupid because of the heart shape on his back. His official name is "Skip Me Awesome Cupid."

You can see a movie of cupid on YouTube.

Cupid is offered for sale for $1,500. He cannot be weaned until late fall, but he can be purchased prior to weaning with free board until he is weaned.

Sock It To You
"Pretty"
APHA Paint Bay Overo Mare
1991, 15.1hh

Pretty is one special girl. Before she found her home here at Painted Bar Stables, Pretty was a gymkhana and barrel horse winning state championships. However, Pretty lost vision in her right eye due to a leptosporosis infection and also has Cushing's Disease. But that hasn't slowed her down a bit. She's still barrel racing and riding the trails and because she's infertile she's become Sierra's best, best friend.

TS Anna Bar Chick
"Vatallaniey" or "Tally!"
APHA Paint Chestnut Tobiano Mare
June 13 2005, 14.2hh
Jointly Owned by Erika Eckstrom and Amber Schorpp

Born in 2005, Tally has a personality that will hit you like a ton of bricks if you aren't ready for it. Here at Painted Bar we have high hopes for this young mare; from Jumping to Gymkhana, we are sure that she can do it all. Spunky and fun, Tally always looks like she's on a mission. Because of her high headset, we often joke that she is like an "Ostrich," but we’re working on that. Tally is taking the year off from showing in 2010 to work on slowing down and some manners, but come next year, watch out for this one!

Hearts On Fire
"Fire"
Arab/APHA Paint, Quarab Sorrel Overo Gelding
Owned by Lisa Birch

Though most of his riding and training was originally done in the arena, we found that Fire really shines out on trail.  He truly has the best qualities of both QH and Arabian – the strength and dependability of a QH along with the endurance and curiosity of an Arabian.  It’s easy to form an instant bond with this guy: he has a heart of gold, he’ll do absolutely anything to please you, and he’s got just the right mix of gelding goofiness to always keep you laughing.  Despite every effort to keep his winter blanket from looking like a holey rag, he insists on spending his day wrestling with Kasper out in the paddock.

Misty Belle
Pinto/Paso Fino Black Tobiano Overo Mare
2005, 14.2hh
Owned by Sylvia Cadwell

Misty Belle a completely broke mare with a personality all her own. She came to Sylvia a under weight, with little muscle tone and out of shape, since she had not been ridden since she was first trained. After the special menu, planned by Erika at Painted Bar Stables, along with conditioning by Amber and trail riding by Sylvia, she has grown into a beautiful, responsive pony. She needs nothing more than a bitless hackamore to guide her through the trails. She's a very smooth ride as she is part Paso Fino. The only horse at Painted Bar Stables that talks to the stable hands that feed her in the morning. She's a little tease though, so we have to be careful to keep her away from the boys as we don't want any little Misty Belles. She is used for lessons for children and can be ridden by small adults under 150lbs.

Past Horses
Sometimes we need to part with some of our friends. Here are horses we have loved in the Past!

Mia Stella
"Mia"
Standardbred Bay Mare
1991, 15.2hh

A former resuce, Mia's had a long hard path. Perhaps that's what accounts for the wisdom in her eyes and the kindness of her soul. With Mia, it's all about trust. When she trusts you she will be your best friend forever.

Mia is ready to be retired from Painted Bar Stables and is looking for a new home. She's just not feeling the public lifestyle and wants a best friend, not a million friends. She is 100% sound for riding. Her forever-home adoption fee is only $500.

Mia Stella, Standardbred Mare

Candy Cane
"Candy"
Thoroughbred-cross Bay Mare
1989, 15.2hh

Candy does most of her work in the arena for lessons. She loves working with advanced beginners and intermediate riders and is incredibly responsive. Candy is actually the oldest horse of the bunch but you wouldn't know it. While gentle and kind she is fast and full of life. She's one of our favorites for barrel racing.
